When I first moved to Central Florida, my first professional opportunity was teaching at the Maitland Art Center. I was given a studio and added to the class schedule teaching screen printing.

   The Maitland Art Center was founded in 1937 by artist/architect J. Andre Smith as an artist colony. It is decorated in concrete art and paintings in the "Mayan Revival Style" also known as Fantasy Architecture.

   After Andre Smith's death, nearby citizens lobbied the city to preserve the property as an art center. As an art center it offers exhibitions, a social venue, and classes (like the one I taught).
